I’ve always thought that it’s a good idea to learn something on your holiday slash travels. I like coming back a little different to what I was when I went away. Heading off on a learning holiday where you learn new skills or enhance existing ones is a great idea.
This is a win-win combo. The Douro has to be one of Europe’s most beautiful areas and if you can get some learning in at the same time it is a great result.
When I finally get to retire I’d like to set up our garden shed to do some pottery and possibly even earn a little pocket money from the hobby.
Heading to the Alentjo region to brush up on my pottery skills would be a very nice start to retirement.
Like many people I really enjoy a glass or two of red wine. Yet, I don’t know much about it. Going on a tasting at somewhere like Octant Douro would help me to get a lot more out of my evening tipple.
Nice idea but I had Portugal and learning sorted years ago.
I go to the Algarve, have a few lessons and work on my game. Then I learn some more about Portuguese wine and food.
The Algarve’s wonderful and has done wonders for my golf game, though you ought to explore some more of Portugal. The Douro valley especially is another of my favourites.
As a retired teacher I know how important it is to get the environment right to maximise learning.
Personally, I always learn best with the sun on my back and a glass of wine in my hand. I think I could be near top of the class in Portugal.
I happened to be in Portugal very soon after the Brexit vote. Although I was very worried about how travel would be impacted I can remember the Portuguese reassuring me that little would change and that there would always be a special welcome for UK visitors. One hotel manager told me, “We’ve known Britain for a lot longer than we’ve known the EU.” It’s that sort of attitude that makes Portugal such a nice place for learning some new skills.
