13 historic palaces and villas on the Grand Canal, the Lido and the island of Murano, Venice, are being auctioned by the Italian government. Among the properties for sale will be the Bonfadini-Vivante palace, famous for its neo-classical frescos, and the Foscari Contarini villa, which overlooks the Grand Canal near the Rialto Bridge. Locals are seemingly outraged, experessing concerns that the properties will be turned into luxury hotels.
