Meier & Frank building to become luxury hotel

An old  department store in  Portland, the Meier & Frank building, is to become Oregon’s first Luxury Collection hotel, a brand owned by Starwood that includes The Phoenician in Scottsdale. The lower floors of the newly developed building will be a newly renovated Macy’s store with the  hotel’s lobby being on the eighth floor. The hotel is expected to open in 2008 and will have 330 rooms.
