Cheese on toast? That’ll be £345, please

Cheese on toastI bet you didn’t know but it’s the first ever National Cheese on Toast Day tomorrow.   And, in a bid to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, Lancashire chef Tom Bridge has come up with a variation on the classic dish… at a staggering £345 per slice. But this is no ordinary slice of cheese on toast. The ingredients include L’Aquila White Umbrian truffles, at £1,400 per kilo, and Matsutake Chinese mushrooms, at £250 per lb. Also present at the event to be held in Leicester Square, London, will be the world’s largest ever piece of cheese on toast.

  1. Truly bizare, but I guess at least this time it’s being done for a slightly better cause than some dept. store’s profits. As for this being produced by a Lancashire chef, why ain’t he selling it in Lancashire then we might have a chance to taste this!

PS: For an extra £50, do we get grilled tomatoes on top?
