Britain’s most visited museum outside London re-opens today after a 3-year, £28-million facelift. Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum will welcome an expected 10,000 visitors today alone. The display space has been extended to accommodate 8,000 pieces (compared to 5,000 three years ago), as well as a temporary exhibition space, lecture theatre, restaurant and shops. The displays now also target families and young children in addition to art connoisseurs. It is hoped by Glasgow City Council that the new look to the museum will help to strengthen its bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Kelvingrove is a fabulous museum and beautiful building and whats even better is that it is free to enter. At the moment the daleks have invaded with a Doctor Who exhibition which runs to the end of the year. The museum is the most visited attraction in Scotland and well worth a visit.
