For someone who seeks adventure and unforgettable experiences, a true African safari is something you cannot miss out on. below we take a look at some of the most popular areas of attraction: The Chobe National Park The Chobe Park is contrasts greatly to the arid type areas that are influenced by the Kalahari. The park consists of a variety of vegetation types and geological features, offering extreme contrasts and a wide range of wildlife experiences within the confines of one park. One of the main attractions of the park is its extremely dense population of elephants and its wide diversity of wildlife. The Kalahari Game Reserve The Kalahari game reserve lies in the heart of the Kalahari desert and is the second largest reserve in the word. It’s clear skies and fine terracotta colored sand offers visitors peace and beauty during their game-viewing experience. Game in this area includes hyena, leopard, lion, giraffe and the endangered painted dogs, which can be found lazing under large trees on scorching days. The Okavango Delta One of the most beautiful and unspoilt places in Africa, and is highly recommended. It consists of deep water channels, palm tree islands and stretches of dryland and floodplain that brim with wildlife. The delta is an oasis that is full of life and beauty. Situated in the middle of the Kalahari, it is a vast contrast from the arid areas surrounding it. The Makgadikgadi Pans Covering over 16 000 square kilometres in the Kalahari basin, the Makgadikgadi Pans promise a unique wilderness experience full of adventure. During good rains, a shallow sheet of water forms on the pans that attract thousands of birds, especially Flamingos. When the ancient Lake Makgadikgadi began to dry out and evaporate, it left behind enormous glistening salty clay crusts which stretch as far as the eye can see. In among the pans are islands of igneous rock where some vegetation is able to escape the salt, such as large baobab trees. The Okavango Western Panhandle The panhandle is located at the top part of the Okavango delta, where it hasn’t started to spread out. There is excellent fishing and birdlife around this area of the Okavango. The panhandle is a minor fault line along which the Okavango River flows before emptying into the Delta. During the winter months between May and July, the annual flood water enters Botswana and Namibia and travels down the Panhandle to the Okavango marshes. Throughout all of these areas there are luxury lodges that offer the most decadent and authentic african cuisine, five-star service and entertainment. An African safari is an experience that one tends to never forget. Carla DuPlessis is Owner and Manager at Adventure Safaris.
