Photograph of the week: Mombasa at dawn

Phil Hill was in Mombasa for a few days after an assignment in West Kenya, and wanted to check out the African coastline as it was his first time seeing the Indian Ocean. He reached Bamburi beach far too early for sunrise and had to sit and bide his time for enough light to photograph. He tells us that it was such a fantastic place to watch the sky go from black to a rich red over the flat and silently still waters. Two men then appeared preparing a boat for the new day, providing him with a great opportunity to catch these guys going about their daily routine before the busy beach crowds rolled in. Thank you to Phil Hill Photographer for permission to re-produce the image. If you have a really special photograph you would like to share with  A Luxury Travel Blog‘s readers, please contact us.

  1. Lovely pink pre sun rise colours! Indeed sunrises on the Kenya coast are amazing and every day they are different! We are really lucky to watch them every day and it is hard not to grab a camera and take yet another dozen of photos and file them into a sunrise folder!
    Lovely photo!

  2. Africa’s East coast is spectacular in so many ways. The sunrises especially are fantastic. I like the inclusion of the chap looking out to sea in this photo.
