The best resort in the world

The Oberoi Udaivilas was ranked as ‘The Best Resort in the World’ by the Readers Service Award 2012. Last year alone, it was also recognized by Condè Nast readers as the ‘Top Hotel in India’, and the ‘Top Hotel in Asia’ by the readers of Travel and Leisure. The Oberoi Udavilas is nestled on the banks of Lake Pichola, in Udaipur, southern Rajasthan. Lake Pichola is the heart and soul of Udaipur, and was man made in 1362 to provide water for the local people. There are four islands located within Lake Pichola, one of which featured in the James Bond film ‘Octopussy’. The islands are scattered with water palaces, which appear to be floating on the glistening lake. Udaipur is the ultimate testament to Rajasthan’s royal heritage. No tour of north India is complete without soaking up the rich culture and history of Udaipur, which is affectionately referred to as the most romantic city in Rajasthan, and is drenched in the passion of the oldest living dynasty in the world. The opulent experience begins with an enchanting boat ride from the banks of Lake Pichola to the Udaivilas, where a brief ceremonial welcome awaits you. Rooms at the Udaivilas are delicately and superbly decorated in royal Rajasthani flair, with private swimming pools attached, along with outdoor dining pavilions looking out on to the breath-taking views of Udaipur’s City Palace and the twinkling waters of Lake Pichola. The Udavilas’ luxurious spa is a haven of tranquillity, complete with trained therapists to pamper the body and soul with invigorating treatments. The Oberoi Udaivilas also offer private yoga, meditation and Pranayam sessions with their resident Yoga guru. Rooms and suites at the Oberoi Udavilas are divided into four categories; the Premier Room, Premier Room with Semi-Private Pool, Luxury Suite with Private Pool and finally the Kohinoor Suite. Premier Rooms are at the first level, and are richly appointed with private walled courtyards and silk parasols. Fine Indian textiles and custom designed furniture complete the room. Each Premier room has a luxurious white marble bathroom, with a freestanding Victorian bath. The Kohinoor Suite is the highest category of not only the Udaivilas, but every Oberoi property. The jewel in the crown of the Udaivilas, the Kohinoor Suite is a spacious 2,650 square feet in size. The Kohinoor Suite offers fountained courtyards, a large private pool, wood fireplaces, two bedrooms and breath taking views of the Aravali mountain range. The Oberoi Udaivilas is fit for royalty, and is the perfect complement to any luxury journey through Rajasthan. Premier rooms start at £476 per night.
