The top 10 most photographed locations on Instagram

With over 100 million monthly users and 40 million pictures posted daily, it’s fair to say that Instagram is a pretty powerful social media tool. So for those working in the luxury travel industry, it’s important to take note of Instagram’s trends. With that in mind, it’s time for a drumroll…

The top 10 most photographed locations on Instagram are as follows:

1. Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand
2. Siam Paragon shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand
3. Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California, USA
4. Times Square in New York City, USA
5. AT&T Park in San Francisco, USA
6. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), USA
7. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, USA
8. Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
9. Staples Center, Los Angeles, USA
10. Santa Monica Pier, Los Angeles, USA

Something of a surprise to see an airport in there as number one, but I guess the first thing you’d probably do after a 14 hour flight from the UK is get your camera out!

I expected the Eiffel Tower to be higher on that list. Is there any concrete stats to back up your information?

  2. Carole Booth says:

    Hi Lorenzo,

The information for this article was taken from Instagram’s own blog.

  3. Nicole says:

I can’t believe LAX or Santa Monica made it to that list. There are so many other places more picturesque than the airport. =)

  4. Paul Johnson says:

I don’t think it’s so much about which places are the most beautiful, Nicole… it probably has just as much to do with people ‘having time on their hands’ which would certainly be the case at an airport.

  5. Caro says:

…also more tourists visit LA etc. than say Victoria Falls or other seven wonders of the world, hence more pics of those locations. Surprised Sydney opera house wasn’t on the list, as its a bit of a photographic cliche these days.

  6. Charlotte says:

Yeah, this says more about the most popular locations rather than the most photagaraphable(?)places. People will take photos of anywhere!

  7. Russell says:

It stands to reason that an airport would be high on the list as checking in at an exotic location such as BKK fits in with the bragging rights so common on social media.
