The southern hemisphere’s number one Warbird airshow – Warbirds Over Wanaka

Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow is one of Wanaka’s major biennial events. It is a truly spectacular airshow featuring military fighter aircraft from the last 100 years, as well as modern jets from the present. Held over Easter weekend in April, the town of Wanaka New Zealand is almost always at capacity during this popular event. This event is marked as the largest warbird airshow in the Southern Hemisphere. Warbirds Over Wanaka With aircraft such as the Spitfire, German Pfalz D.III, P51-D Mustang, Kittyhawk, the giant C-130 Hercules and Iroquis helicopters the sky entertainment just doesn’t stop. One of the highlights is a giant mock air battle, complete with very real explosions, that will take make you feel like you are on the battle field. When you need a break from looking skyward the ground displays offer a vast array of entertainment. From aircraft eyecandy static displays, such as the tiger moth and Hercules to aircrafts for sale, local wine and food stalls, aviation trade stands, market stalls and more. If you are up for it, an addition to this years show is the rides day. Rides day is your chance to take a ride and sometimes even the controls of these classic aircraft. So if you have ever dreamed of flying in a Spitfire, Tiger Moth, Strikemaster or perhaps something else, this is your chance.
