Chile is the ultimate ‘land of extremes’ – from deserts and remote islands, to temperate rainforest and frozen ice fields, it has it all. Whether you crave adventure, relaxation, history, culture or wildlife, you will find it in Chile. And the best part of all is that there is a myriad of unique, luxurious hotels that can be found in every region. Here we have selected 5 of our favourites. 1. Tierra Chiloe As the name suggests, the Tierra Chiloe Hotel is located on the remote island of Chiloe on Chiles western coast. This is a wild and mysterious part of the world, where few tourists venture and the area is steeped in mythological stories and a deep-rooted culture. Atop a cliff overlooking the ocean and with the stunning snowy peaked volcanoes in the distance, you can find Tierra Chiloe. The Tierra brand owns 3 hotels, all in Chile and all very exclusive. They are known for their extravagant architecture, exquisite service and world-class food. This hotel of the three is no exception, and visitors will not be disappointed. Elements of the natural world have been incorporated into the rooms which are contemporary in design and boast huge panoramic windows. The hotel offers a selection of excursions from horseback riding and trekking, through to boat trips exploring the fjords on the hotels very own boat named Williche. At the end of the day, guests are invited to enjoy Chilean cuisine feature local ingredients, and relax in the full spa which has views over the Pullao wetlands. 2. The Singular Regularly cited as being one of the best hotels not just in Chile, but in the world, the Singular is a hotel which offers an incredible Patagonian experience. Declared as a national heritage site in 1996, the hotel is a historic marvel, as well as a luxurious hotel. The building was originally the Bories cold warehouse, which became a key element in the birth of the nearby town of Puerto Natales. Now fully restored to an incredibly high standard, the hotel is well respected as the premier place from which to visit the stunning landscapes of nearby Torres del Paine National Park. The rooms at The Singular are spacious, elegantly decorated and have huge floor-to-ceiling windows allowing fabulous views over the Sound of Last Hope. Elsewhere in this sprawling hotel, guests can enjoy the wonderfully warm atmosphere in the bar and restaurant, both of which serve fabulous food and drink, or relax in the full Spa. A wide range of activities are on offer, conducted with profession private guides in the local area, and include kayaking, hiking sections of the famous W Trek, horse riding, fly fishing and cruising the fjords. 3. Awasi Atacama The Awasi style is unlike any other hotel chain in the world. Their unique, and sometimes quirky, design is perhaps not to everyones taste, but there can be no denying that these hotels are simply fabulous. There are 3 hotels in the group, one of which is the Awasi Atacama, based in the small desert oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama. With just 10 private suites, the accommodation is exclusive. The thatched huts are charming, and extremely well-equipped offering large comfortable beds, private solariums with an outdoor shower, traditional furniture and best of all, each room comes with its very own private guide and driver to take you on excursions. From this base, it is possible to explore the nearby Licancabur volcano, areas of geysers and hot pools, bizarre rock formations in Moon Valley and spot unique wildlife such as flamingos and vincunas. And, on return to the hotel, there is of course a spa in which to relax and delicious local delicacies served in the restaurant. 4. Explora Rapa Nui Easter Island is on the travel bucket list for many, particularly those interested in history and culture. Despite its small size, and remote location, the island does offer some luxurious accommodation options, one of which is the Explora Rapa Nui. This hotel is a wonderful combination of the wild elements of the islands, modern facilities and sheer comfort. Each room is light and spacious, with wide windows and subtle colour schemes which create an atmosphere of serenity. The hotel has a wonderful spa which is housed in a colonial-style building, an outdoor pool and the food served in the restaurant is of the highest quality. During the day, guests can choose from 20 different excursions that range from hiking trails and visiting the famous Moai statues, through to snorkelling in the beautifully clear waters that surround the isle. 5. Le Reve If you are looking for understated luxury Le Reve should be your hotel of choice in Chiles capital city, Santiago. This small and quiet hotel is located in one of the best areas of the city, on a leafy street surrounded by excellent bars, shops and restaurants. Inside, you would be forgiven for thinking you had walked into a fine English home, or perhaps a presidential building. It is elegant, grand and luxurious, and yet in no way over the top or extravagant. Guests will love the honesty bar, cosy lounge area and most of all, the midnight snack room which is open throughout the night serving hot drinks with biscuits, cakes, fruit and other nibbles. The elegant theme continues into the rooms, where there are huge beds, eloquent pieces of furniture, chocolates on the pillows and in some case, beautiful doors leading out to the interior courtyard.
