Where to watch the most beautiful sunsets in the world

Sunsets are a glorious and awe-inspiring time of the day. The notorious golden hour magically lights up the sky as the day’s magic slowly fades into the evening. Whether the sun is glinting off a bustling city skyline or sinking into a sparkling sea, a sunset is a beautiful spectacle no matter where you are in the world.

Yes, beautiful sunsets leave us spellbound with their beautiful displays of color and light, but here are a few of the most breathtaking spots to witness this daily event.

Santorini, Greece

Starting in the Greek Isles – the sunsets in Santorini are a world-renowned spectacle. A dazzling sunset in this Grecian paradise – it’s easily one of the most romantic sunsets in the world. Tourists take up every possible spot just before the white and blue town is awash with sunlight – waiting for the moment when the Aegean Sea is lit up with gorgeous rose-pink colors. This sparks applause from some spectators, while naturally, others are left breathless.

Santa Monica, California

The Santa Monica Pier – Cali’s favorite playground – is all about fun and merrymaking. From rollercoasters to carousels and, of course, candy floss, there are plenty of things to tickle your fancy. But nothing beats the incredible natural wonder of the sun setting over the beach and famous boardwalk. Watch as the lights from the amusement park twinkle in the dusk light. If you’ve spent the day joyriding, this beautiful sunset will give you a moment to get grounded.

Cape Town, South Africa

Truly nothing compares to an African sunset, and the iconic plateau of Table Mountain is the star during Cape Town’s sunset shows. Whether you’re sipping on a glass of yummy local wine on the harbor or sitting atop Signal Hill with a make-shift picnic, as you watch the city’s hustle and bustle below, there’s nothing more breath-taking than watching the sun slip behind the flat top of the city’s focal point. And it will most certainly leave you awe-struck.

Bali, Indonesia

Bali is renowned for its remarkable sunsets. One of the many beautiful beaches is an ideal spot to watch the sun setting. Jimbaran Beach is a lively stretch that offers a handful of seafood eateries that line the beachfront and makes for a festive atmosphere to enjoy the sun and its magic. Munch on some fresh seafood and watch as the sun slips gracefully into the waves. Balinese sunsets are undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

Cairo, Egypt

The only thing more magnificent than experiencing one of the world’s wonders is experiencing it at one of the most beautiful times of the day – sunset. Especially when that wonder of the world is the Great Pyramids. Only in Egypt can you witness the most magical sunset ever. Located near Cairo, this sunset mesmerizes everyone who catches a glimpse of it. A fiery red sun sinking into the hot Egyptian desert sand.

Venice, Italy

While, ornate marble churches, narrow streets, and wandering canals are charming enough during the day, at twilight you’ll get to experience Italy’s most beautiful city when it’s bathed in the marvelous light of the setting sun. So, if you opt for a typical Venetian gondola trip on the Grand Canal or simply stroll along the Accademia Bridge – the sunset spectacle only dials up the romance in this romantic city.

Hawaii Island, Hawaii

Located on Hawaii’s Kohala Coast, Kauna’oa Bay is widely considered one of the best beaches in the United States. A stretch of pristine beachfront like this is the perfect setting for a glorious sunset moment. There’s something truly magical about the tropical sunset turning the Pacific Ocean into a splendid mix of yellow, violet, and orange – Hawaii Island should be on every sunset chaser’s bucket list.

Isle of Skye, Scotland

Scotland’s Isle of Skye offers a very dramatic backdrop for a sunset. The Scottish Highlands and its craggy hills are already something otherworldly, but when the sun starts to set, the intensity is just dialed up. The Quairaing landslip offers just a glimpse into a magical realm – as one of Britain’s largest landslips – the crags and crevices are the perfect settings for the light to play off.

The Grand Canyon, Arizona

This next one is a great spot for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, as well as sunset lovers. The breathtaking Grand Canyon in Arizona becomes even more incredible at sunset – when the twilight hour turns the rocks, cliffs, and crevices into a deep shade of crimson tinged with a rich orange. Almost as if the entire canyon is ablaze! Head to the North or South rim to experience the glorious spectacle from the best vantage points.

Alaska, USA

From frozen Alaskan lakes to lush dark pine forests covered in thick blankets of snow, everything just becomes a literal winter wonderland beneath the stunning haze of the sunset. Causing the ice to glisten and dyeing the sky a beautiful shade of yellow, sunsets in Alaska are undoubtedly among the world’s most beautiful.

Whether you’re on the Venetian canals or in the middle of the Alaskan forests, the majesty of the setting sun is never underwhelming. Although these are undoubtedly some of the best places to watch the sunset, this list just scratches the surface of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
