Review: Ludwig Burger, Innsbruck, Austria

On our final evening in Innsbruck, we took a short stroll from the Old Town to Ludwig Burger on Museumstraße. It was founded by a Tyrolean couple, Angela and Erich Hauser, who opened the doors to the resetaurant in 2014. They had been Inspired by their time in London, bringing with them their vision of high-quality burgers to Austria.

With them, they also brought their vision of “True Burger Love” which essentially means creating honest, authentic burgers without compromising on quality, and supporting local producers. The success of this first restaurant was soon followed by Ludwig Salzburg in 2016 and, more recently, by Ludwig SCS Vösendorf in February 2026.

The food

Ludwig has broughta bio-certified burger concept to Austria and has become known for using 100% Austrian organic beef and fresh daily-baked local brioche buns. They don’t use artificial flavours to chemical additives, and refuse to take shortcuts – ssomething that’s totally refreshing when it comes to the humble burger! Instead, everything that arrives on your plate is indicative of a deep commitment to regional provenance and mindful sourcing.

They use 100% Austrian Simmental beef which is sourced from small-scale organic farms via Bio-Metzgerei Sonnberg. This ensures a burger that is juicy and full of flavour. The brioche buns are baked daily and also sourced locally, from Altstadt-Bäckerei Kröll in Innsbruck.

Chicken lovers are equally well catered for with their Tyrolean Organic Alpine Chicken burgers. They use juicy upper-thigh meat that comes from the Stipplerhof organic mountain farm in Ötztal, less than an hour from Innsbruck.

As well as burgers, they of course do fries in a variety of different ways, but all cut fresh daily from organic potatoes with the skin on. Try the crisp and colourful Mexican french fries that are loaded with guacamole, tomato salsa and house aioli.

And it doesn’t just stop at burgers and fries. Ludwig also do vibrant superfood bowls such as this one with fresh rocket/arugula and diced feta, protein-packed quinoa, cucumber, microgreen sprouts, toasted pumpkin and sunflower seeds, and more, served with a side container of lemon-maple dressing.

To finish on a sweet note, the dessert menu keeps things simple and indulgent, featuring a luscious lemon cheesecake and a rich, warm chocolate brownie served alongside smooth vanilla ice cream.

The chef

Angela acts as the culinary mastermind behind Ludwig’s vision, personally developing every recipe on the menu. But because she oversees operations across all three locations (Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Vösendorf), she isn’t tied down to one specific kitchen. Rather than relying on a traditional head chef structure at individual sites, Ludwig operates on more of a team-based system where standard operating procedures and Angela’s stringent quality controls ensure every single burger leaving the kitchen meets her exact specifications.

The ambience

The interior of Ludwig Innsbruck manages to strike the perfect balance between trendy industrial chic and cosy Alpine warmth. Low-hanging pendant lighting, and clean minimalist seating produce an atmosphere that feels vibrant and welcoming without ever being pretentious. Large windows flood the space with natural light during the day, while warm, moody lighting creates an intimate dining atmosphere by night.

The cost

Considering the bio-certified sourcing and high caliber of ingredients, Ludwig offers exceptional value for money. Classic beef and veggie burgers are typically around €15, with signature double-stacked options like the Ludwig Burger closer to €20. It is priced competitively alongside standard boutique burger joints, yet punches far above its weight in food ethics and the quality of the ingredients used.

The final verdict

Ludwig Burger sets a benchmark for fast-casual dining in Austria by proving that “fast food” can be deeply tied to sustainable, high-quality farming. Whether you are a meat lover, vegetarian (there are plenty of veggie options, too!), or simply looking for a hearty, colorful superfood bowl in central Innsbruck, Ludwig delivers authentic “True Burger Love” that lives up to every bit of its promise.
