Alma de Cuba, Liverpool UK

Alma de CubaThe latest addition to the Liverpool restaurant scene appears to be getting rave reviews. Located in a a 200-year-old Polish Catholic church on Seel Street, some are going so far as to describe it as one of the most spectacular bar and restaurant venues in Europe. It also seems to be one of the places to be seen; soon-to-wed former Atomic Kitten Natasha Hamilton and her fiancé Fran Cosgrave were recently spotted there.

  1. To start off with the restaurant looks amazing from downstairs in the bar. Leather chairs, very nice tables. I booked a table for the restaurant for me and my girlfriend. When we arrived we had a couple of drinks and then we were taken up to our table. We were put up in a little annex that you can’t see from downstairs in the bar which had plastic red chairs and did not fit the view from the bar. It was out of the way and the view was not the best (derelict building roofs). Just being me and my girlfriend i would have expected being put in a quite corner. This was not the case, we were sat next to a gang of women who had a few to many drinks who were very loud to say the least. The roast duck was very tasty but a bit sparse. My girlfriend had the roast chicken which was average which was a shame. The staff were very good and im almost sure that they were slightly embarrassed to show us to the table. Ten out of Ten for the bar. The restaurant on the surface looks top notch but is very superficial when you are sat down to your table. Im sure if we were given one of the tables that you can see from the bar we would have had a better experience.

  2. Thank you for the feedback, Karl, and a warm welcome to A Luxury Travel Blog. It’s great to have this information posted as it’ll be of benefit to others considering a visit. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t have as good an experience as it could have been. Will you be going again however?
