What’s happening with The World?

If you’ve not already heard about The World, then allow me to put you in the picture… it’s a collection of 300 private islands in the shape of continents located off the coast of Dubai, offering “the ultimate in privacy and luxury”. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart and Angelina Jolie are all said to have expressed interest in the development. Pictured right is an artist’s impression of how it will all look. However, the reality is currently very different!   The second picture shows the actual development, as of March 2006. Clearly, there’s still a lot of work to be done before a better representation of the globe is achieved. There’s also been criticism surrounding the $14 billion manmade project from environmental groups  because of destruction to Dubai’s coral reefs. Completion is expected in 2008.
