The new purpose-built Airbus 340-500 for Etihad Airways – part of an $8 billion order for the national airline of the UAE – has arrived, along with its ‘Diamond Seat’. The seat can rotate 180 degrees, ideal for business travellers who want to have meetings as they fly, or for leisure travellers who simply wish to dine together. Other features of the seat include the ability to turn the seat into a bed with the flick of a switch, and a six-way movement headrest with built-in massage capability. There are 12 Diamond seats on each aircraft, 28 Pearl and 200 Coral.

Not only have they won the World’s Leading New Airline for the third year on the trot, but they’ve also scooped up the award for World’s Leading Flat-bed Seat at the 13th World Travel Awards. Their Diamond Seat which I blogged about back in July can recline 180 degrees into a flat bed, as well as rotate 180 degrees so that passengers can dine or talk with one another.
