I see you have a few postings about afternoon tea. The custom is growing in popularity again with many top hotels around the world offering it.
The last time we went for a posh afternoon tea was at the 1885 restaurant in the E&O Hotel in Penang. It was supposed to be a treat but it was a horrible disappointment. The sandwiches were vile, and would you believe that the tea was made with teabags?!
I’m sure that some establishments make a good job of it, such as The Howard, but I thought it was quite shameful that one of Asia’s top hotels should make such a hash of it.
The Howard’s afternoon tea is great – we spent a lovely afternnon enjoying ourselves, nothing beats a good afternoon tea – so very civilised.
Another great afternoon tea with a bit more of a modern twist is the Pret a Portea at the Berkley in london. All the cakes are fashioned on the latest couture collections and include chanel bags and jimmy choos. with a glass of champagne and some beautiful cakes and sandwiches this is a fantastic experience – tres chic!
