Top 10 Caribbean dream escapes

In an email just in, Tripadvisor tell me that their top 10 Caribbean dream escapes are as listed below. Grand Cayman tops the pile, whilst many others are notable in their absence (eg. Bahamas, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, etc.) What do you make of the list?

1. Grand Cayman
2. Aruba
3. St. Maarten/St. Martin
4. Negril, Jamaica
5. Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
6. Playa del Carmen, Mexico
7. Barbados
8. San Juan, Puerto Rico
9. St. Thomas
10. Antigua and Barbuda

Nice list! Most people see the Caribbean as a dream destination for the quiet, private resorts. However I think it’s better to be amongst the real spirit of the Caribbean – the towns and cities. With that in mind, I would pick Barbados from this list.

St. Martin is a gorgeous vacation, definitely deserves its place on this list!

  3. Little Miss London says:

Personally I think what is missing should be number one on the list: St Barths.

Aruba is the way to go ! The resorts on Palm Beach are fabulous !

Grand Cayman is definitely number one. I was there in September this year and had a fantastic time, despite the weather being on the turn. If you go, then I’d recommend the Marriott, staff are very friendly. I’d also recommend off season, so it’s not too packed.

I’m a big fan of Negril, Jamaica. Such a great spot for a vacation. I visited their for my honeymoon and it was such a memorable trip.

I loved San Juan and the French side of St Martin, but really disliked St Kitts when I visited there.. (ed’s suggestion!) The islands I loved best were Dominica and Tobago – especially away from the tourist resorts. Swimming with Manta Rays on Tobabgo, and through the “champagne” bubbles on Dominica, and over the edge of the reef into the deep! Beautiful, wild, tropical paradises – I am sure there are many more, but they were my favourite places.

Yes I agreed. These list is really amazing these places have so much to offer how ever the Dominican Republic is one of the top 5 on the list for a reason if you are really looking for beautiful blue water and white sands come to Punta Cana you will never forget the beauty beaches and wonderful people.
