It’s the start of the year, which means we’ll be thinking about planning our holidays for the year ahead. Here’s a guide to new luxury hotels that will be opening in the UK during 2013, which will be worth checking out.
Café Royal, London
Café Royal opened its doors on 3rd December 2012, but its official full opening occurs in March 2013, the culmination of a four-year transformation of a former London grand dame.
The stunning hotel retains the heritage of the original building with its imposing staircase and opulent design features. There are currently 159 rooms and suites (including six historic suites), a restaurant under the direction of Andrew Turner, 2 bars (including the spectacular Grill Room, soon to be followed by a private members club (with its own more formal restaurant) and a holistic wellbeing centre.
Shangri-La London
The Shangri-La Hotel in London will be housed on the upper floors of The Shard (floors 34 to 52), one of the tallest buildings in Europe, with glorious views of London.
The Shangri-la London will have 195 rooms, including 25 suites, some of which will have glass-enclosed wintergarden balconies. The 52nd floor spa will offer Chinese and Himalayan treatments, long with an indoor infinity pool.
Salcombe Harbour Hotel & Spa, Devon
The refurbished Salcombe Harbour Hotel & Spa will re-open in Salcombe, Devon in time for Summer 2013 with 50 fully refurbished bedrooms (many with private balconies and panoramic sea views), a luxurious new Harbour Spa and Harbour Restaurant on the estuary.
Heckfield Place, Hampshire
Located less than an hour from London in beautiful Hampshire countryside, Heckfield Place is an 18th Century manor house set in 400 acres of gardens and woodland, that is due to open in the Spring of 2013.
Heckfield Place will feature 60 bedrooms dotted around the stables, the walled garden and in the manor house itself. Heckfield Place is situated on a working farm, therefore the food will include (very) locally-sourced ingredients under the direction of celebrated chef Skye Gyngell.
The Lord Crewe Arms
Calcot Hotels, which includes Calcot Manor and Barnsley House in The Cotswolds, will add The Lord Crewe Arms to its portfolio of boutique properties in 2013 in the medieval village of Blanchland, on the Northumberland-Durham border.
The Lord Crewe Arms will re-open as a 21 bedroom country hotel in May 2013, following a £1.5 million renovation.
