Visit Madrid’s oldest tavern
One thing you must do when you go to Madrid is try the local cuisine. But where better to do this than Las Cuevas de Louis Candelas, the oldest tavern in Madrid. The roasted suckling pig is an old favourite. You’ll be in good company as many famous people have dined here, including the former US President Jimmy Carter.
Go hot air ballooning
Approximately 25 minutes from the city centre, Aero Difusion offer hot balloon flights from Villanueva de la Cañada. From here, you get to fly over the Guadarrama National Park where you’ll enjoy a fantastic view of the Madrid skyline on one side and mountains on the other.
Explore the city on a Segway
Look up Segway Trip to arrange a tour of Madrid with a difference. Getting around on a Segway is fairly easy once you’ve mastered the basics, and with this company you can choose from a variety of tours including one that includes chocolate with churros and a stop at San Miguel Market.

Fantastic post and I love the variety of ideas you have shared with us. Las Cuevas is one of my favorite places in Madrid. Wonderful food and a friendly staff who I have found love to help you try new things.

I just got back from Madrid this weekend. The Segway tour is a great idea, I found it to be fun and a great way to see the city.
Segways are embarrassing, everyone looks and laughs at you. Way to stand out to the pickpocketers, too, who are good enough to pilfer as you move past them.
Cuevas de Louis Candela is actually well known for being the oldest tavern in Madrid. When I there in in 1992, our taxi driver suggested it to us and we dined there. Just recently, I met someone who told me they had dined at the oldest restaurant in Madrid, I presume the same place.
Such great ideas! Since I have one more month in Madrid, I think I should at least try exploring the city on a segway :))
