Top 5 fashionable essentials every woman must pack

Whether planning for a small weekend getaway or a huge trip abroad, there are certain items of necessity that you will want to make room for in your luggage.  These garments and accessories in question are versatile in their range of options and utility – but make sure to invest in pieces that will last you a long while.  While it would be luxurious to pack away every travel ensemble you owned into a stack of luggage five Louis Vuitton trunks high, it is equally delicious to travel light and efficient – knowing that you have prepped with key, quality pieces that will take you through your trip and back again.  Every woman has a different idea of what is fashionable and luxurious – but no girl can argue the comfort of leaving home with these top five travel-friendly items in her possession:

Cardigan

The quintessential piece to layer with. Wear on the plane and/or during transit. Throw this over a camisole for a more demure look or wear buttoned up as a stand alone top. Choose cable-knit or a piece woven in cashmere or wool if youÂ’re traveling somewhere chilly. For balmy weather, a sheer cotton blend or flowy jersey style will do! Pashmina

Easily a scarf, sarong or pareo, this versatile piece of fabric is always handy to have around. Keep one with you for extra warmth on the plane or carry one around in your purse for quick coverage during unexpected weather changes. Cashmere and silk blends can be used during both cool and warm temperatures. Try to avoid acrylic because youÂ’ll save yourself the trouble of static cling! Flats

The bane of a self-professed diehard stiletto lover. Agreed–BUT, even the flat can be sexy!  What with the rise of the ballet slipper, charming boat shoes, vintage loafer, or smoking slipper, one would actually have a hard time not finding pavement-friendly options. Save yourself the midday limp thatÂ’s likely to manifest from trekking around on four inch heels! Besides, is there anything more alluring than a woman skipping around town without a care in the world? Pictured here: Aster Smoking Slipper by Sam Edelman, $105 USD.

Wristlet

The ultimate multi-tasker. This little accessory holds all your essentials like cards, money, passport and lipstick. Insert into your carry-all travel tote during the day and use it by itself at night. The wristlet can double as your evening clutch and there are plenty of styles out there that come with detachable chains or handles. Black pants

The classic must-have piece. Black pants are crucial because they can be dressed up and they can be dressed down. This neutral color goes with anything and camouflages minor mishaps (nobody will ever notice where that wayward drop of wine fell). Do go shopping for ones that fit you best: pants with a slight flare will help slim and elongate frames, straight-legged cuts work best for bountiful hips and fitted “skinnies” work perfectly for going out!  Pictured here: the Stilt in Coated Black by Adriano Goldschmied, $168 USD.

  1. As a stylish girl who loves to travel (lightly!), I have to say that these are indeed staples I always bring with me. Thank you so much for the sensible and fashion-savvy advice on flats. Flats can indeed be both fun and sexy, they are easy to pack, and they are versatile travel shoes. When you have to be on your feet a lot, possibly run through airports, or take long leisurely walks through beautiful foreign cities, flats are your friends. I think it is time that fashionistas embraced the idea of shoes that are both comfortable and chic!

  2. Love the article. Couldn’t agree more with your cardigan suggestions. Be sure to check out Calypso St. Barth for some amazing travel friendly cardigans…. they carry an amazing mix of beach and winter essentials.

  4. I still can’t get down with the flats. I don’t find them sexy at all and I will probably go to my grave wearing my 5″ heels haha! I agree on all other points. I am a frequent business traveler (in fact, I leave again today) and on my feet from 6am up to midnight. I make sure to sit down from time to time, but you won’t see me in flats. They just can’t polish of a pants or skirt suit like a pair of classic heels. -Heather, Life of a Traveling Navy Wife

  5. Flats and a wristlet is definitely my go to items for travelling. Can never resist a pretty pair of comfortable flats!
