A honeymooners’ trip to Athens and Cyclades

Greece is among the most popular destinations for honeymooners, especially Santorini which is known for its unique light and romantic sunset. For those who want to combine their honeymoon with some other activities, see below a suggested itinerary and activities.

Day 1: Arrival in Athens Riviera. Stay in one of the seafront spa hotels with uninterrupted views of the Argosaronikos bay and indulge in the hotel’s rated spa facilities. Only a short boat ride away from Athens, the islands of the Saronic gulf operate as an anxiolytic for the cosmopolitan Athenians and are a timeless favorite destination for weekends and getaways. The bay Includes the islands of Aegina, Salamina, Spetses, Hydra, Poros, Agistri, Dokos and many other smaller islands and islets. This area gathers most sailboats in Greece during the summer months. Day 2: Tour of Athens. After breakfast, a guide will transfer you to the Acropolis Park and tour the Acropolis area and the Museum. Following the  Unification of Archaeological Sites, the plan that beautified the area surrounding the Acropolis transforming it into a large archeological park or open-air archeological museum, visitors enjoy a walk among some of the world’s most ancient treasures in a peaceful way. The park extends from Dionissiou Areopagitou Street, Apostolos Pavlou, Adrianou, Ermou and Vassilisis Olga streets and covers an area of approximately 4 km in length and 15,000 acres. Highlights of the sites along the way are: the Acropolis, the Ancient and Roman Agora, Hadrian’s Arch, the Ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Philopappou Hill and The Theatre of Dionysos. Furthermore, the park integrated monuments of the Byzantine and Post-Byzantine period, areas of green including the national garden, Zappeion and the traditional neighborhoods of the historical Centre of Athens namely, Plaka, Anafiotika, Thisio, Psirri, Metaxourgeio, Makriyanni and Koukaki.

Enjoy lunch at the new Acropolis Museum Restaurant and in the afternoon walk in the Zapeion Area, monuments and Kolonaki Shopping Area.For the Evening Dinner choose something totally unique. Dinner at one of the oldest residences with a degustation menu based on ancient recipes! The dinner is black tie and a famous soloist will accompany the dinner.

Day 3: Fly to Santorini. Resembling an open-air natural history museum, this extraordinary island and its four neighboring islets, were formed by one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in recorded history, in the late 17th Century B.C. A truly unique geological find, Santorini continues to amaze with its surreal beauty.

Choose to stay in a private villa or hotel at the heart of the Caldera which is the ideal honeymoon nest. The caldera offers a variety of options for walks and shopping. Spend the day touring the most well known villages of Fira, Oia and Acrotiri. At Sunset, enjoy drinks at the privacy of the villa/ hotel with a Sommelier and Chef creating elevated Greek recipes while the couple celebrates the famous Santorini Sunset!

Day 4: Wine tour of the most well known Santorini wineries. Choose a Private wine tour of the most well known wineries. A wine guide will pick you up from your villa / hotel and take you to a wine-tasting session combined with cooking lessons. Different recipes will be demonstrated before you can enjoy a hard-earned lunch, accompanied by a bottle of delicious Santorini wine.

Day 5: You can relax at the privacy of the villa/ hotel and enjoy the view and the aura!

Day 6: Fly to Mykonos which has been selected as the top destination for luxury and a cosmopolitan life-style with celebrities flocking in from around the world. Stay in Chora Mykonos if you want to be in the middle of the happenings or to a villa for privacy and tranquility. Don’t miss out a Little Venice for Dinner and Drinks. Little Venice is a colorful neighborhood in Mykonos Town with wooden balconies hanging above the sea. There you will find countless bars and café from which you can enjoy the most spectacular sunset, the most famous one being the Caprice Bar. Continuing your walk through Little Venice you will find the Windmills which impress visitors with their all white massive shapes in a row facing the sea.

Day 7: Day rib boat trip to the sacred Delos island. Delos, measuring a mere 3 sq kms, is a small island, which was an important religious centre in the Archaic and Classical periods with its sanctuary to the god Apollo. On Delos are found the admirably well-preserved ruins of one of the largest, most significant, and best-organized ancient Greek settlements.

Alternatively to Delos Tour you can go for a Heli Tour of Tinos. A place of pilgrimage and worship, Tinos owes its unique place in the Greek psyche thanks to the Church of Panayia Meyalohari, Great Grace, also known as the Church of Evangelistria of Tinos, Our Lady of Good Tidings. Located between Andros and Mykonos, Tinos has beaches to match and perhaps some of the most well-preserved villages in all of the Cyclades.

    Staying at the Caldera in Santorini is a must, especially for honeymooners, just like staying at a hotel by the canals in Venice is!
