Skiing in Queenstown and Wanaka New Zealand

ItÂ’s almost winter down in the southern hemisphere of the world, and that means the ski season is about to begin. New Zealand is a popular destination for the skier wanting to make some effortless powder turns, during July August and September. New Zealand has many ski regions, with arguably the most noted being the Southern Lakes area. This area encompasses the ski towns of Wanaka and Queenstown, and five of New ZealandÂ’s finest commercial ski resorts. Each ski resort has something different to offer and compliment with the rest. Treble Cone is known for its steeps and chutes and being brilliant on a powder day! It overlooks the beautiful Lake Wanaka and provides a large skiable area of 530 hectares, with a vertical drop of 700 metres. Treble Cone Cardrona is known for its wide open, perfectly groomed intermediate trails. It is a families dream resort with plenty to do for everyone, and huge amounts of terrain for the beginner and intermediate skier. Snow Farm is the regionÂ’s and countryÂ’s cross county base. It has endless laid trails and hidden away huts – making the perfect cross country adventure. You can go for just the day or do a multiple day overnight trip carrying your gear and treating yourself to have them sled it over. ‘ Coronet Peak is full of wide rolling country, which makes all the groomed and ungroomed trails fun and exciting. They also boast the only night skiing in the area, with plenty of trails to keep you satisfied until the late hours of the night. The Remarkables ski field comprises of three sunny bowls, so you can follow the sun around all day! There are plenty of hiking opportunities on a powder day, and if you head up the Shadow Basin chair – a short hike will give you brilliant views of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.
