Suite of the week: Alkina Lodge, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
Alkina Lodge
Location: Wattle Hill, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, Australia
Size of accommodation: Approximately 350 sq m
What makes it special: Alkina Lodge is the closest luxury accommodation to the famous 12 Apostles on the Great Ocean Road, and are the only houses in the world designed by award winning architects, Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin that are available for short stay rental.
Set amongst native forest, close to the 12 Apostles and overlooking the Southern Ocean, the three architecturally designed, four-bedroom luxury lodges on the Great Ocean Road are ideal for couples, families and groups of friends looking to escape to the unspoilt southwest coast of Victoria, Australia.
Each lodge has four bedrooms and two bathrooms, and in total we can accommodate 2-24 guests based on double occupancy, or 1-12 guests based on single occupancy.
Alkina’s fully self-contained lodges are fitted with only the most luxurious of features, including north facing windows to allow light to pour in, a stunning Gaggenau equipped kitchen, a bespoke wood fireplace, Nespresso coffee machines, Bang and Olufsen and Bose entertainment systems, fine European furniture, and a magnificent Royal Doulton bathtub with views of the night sky.
The luxury lodges were designed by award winning architects, Glenn Murcutt and Wendy Lewin, and are the only houses in the world they have designed that are available for short stay rental. Touch the earth lightly is Glenn Murcutts creed, and this is reflected in the architecture of the lodges.
Alkina Lodge has been designed and built with sensitivity to the local landscape, and compliments the surrounding natural environment. Heating is passively solar, supplemented by gas fired hydronics, underfloor heating in the bathrooms, as well as the bespoke fireplace.
