Suite name: Portovenere Junior Suite
Location: Grand Hotel Portovenere, Portovenere, Liguria, Italy
Size of accommodation: Approximately 50 sq m
Cost per night: From 470 euros (double occupancy)
Who’s stayed there? Actress Audrey Tatou, Singer Patti Smith and football player Fernando LLorente.
What makes it special: The breathtaking views of Portoveneres colorful historic centre, picturesque marina and Palmaria Island.
The Portovenere Junior Suites are spectacular rooms that showcase the beauty of the seaside medieval village on Ligurias Bay of Poets. Each suite is unique in its characteristics, featuring either a grand terrace under the historic arches of the building, or two separate areas with living and sleeping spaces.
Either way, the views are mesmerizing, spanning from the colorful palazzata (or row of slim buildings facing the seafront), to the Marina that has been awarded with the Blue Flag for environmental sustainability, to the exotic Palmaria Island. The suite also features a beautiful full marble bathroom with luxury toiletries.
The Portovenere Junior Suite inspires guests, just as the Bay of Poets received its name by inspiring writers David Herbert Lawrence and Percy Bysshe Shelley, writer and painter George Sand, and poet Lord Byron. As travel writer Richard Bangs (Huffington Post) put it:
[the Instagramification of travel pics makes] everything more ridiculously luscious than anything in unfiltered real life. These days I rarely find an actual view that matches its photos. The Grand Hotel is the exception. Opening the floor-to-ceiling French windows, on the third floor, I look out to what no Renaissance painter ever adequately rendered, the hyper-blue Portovenere Bay, its bawdy harbor, and the marine gateway to the Cinque Terre.
