6 great reasons to charter a yacht this Summer

Have you considered a yacht charter for your vacation? It’s a unique opportunity to take control of your own destiny whilst on holiday. Instead of looking out on the same view each day from your hotel or villa, you get to choose a new beautiful vista whenever and wherever you wish. We spoke to the charter experts at SamBoat, the leading boat rental and yacht charter platform in Europe, who shared with us the following six great reasons to charter a yacht this Summer. The freedom With a yacht charter, you get to enjoy a sense of freedom that is unlike anything you’ll experience on any other vacation. With the breeze in your face, you can plot your route, choose where you want to visit, where you want to anchor and have a swim, where you want to spend the night, and so on. You’ll enjoy a sense of exploration and quite literally a world of possibilities. Unlike on a cruise ship, your time is your own. There is no rush and you are not at the beck and call of a specific itinerary – it’s your boat… your schedule… your vacation. An opportunity to bond with friends and family When on board and out at sea with just a handful of close friends of family, away from the distractions of work and blissfully unaware of world events, it can be an amazing bonding experience. You’ll get to spend true quality time with one another and enjoy shared memories that you can treasure for years to come. The option to travel with or without a skipper There is no requirement to have prior experience when it comes to a yacht charter. Whether you’re new to yachting on an experienced skipper yourself, it really doesn’t matter. That’s because you can choose to travel with or without a skipper, depending on your knowledge, qualifications and confidence levels. If you have a skipper with you, it doesn’t matter if you have no prior yachting experience whatsoever. If you prefer to go it alone, and have the necessary experience, that’s fine too. An opportunity to learn a new skill For those who haven’t sailed or motored before but would like to learn, there is plenty to learn should you wish to do so. Whether it be tying different knots and understanding which knots should be used when, learning to steer, to tack or jibe, how best to trim your sails or how to use the stars to navigate at night, there is always something new to learn, even for the most experienced.

A holiday that will give you a different perspective Whilst a yacht charter does offer the opportunity to learn new skills, it also provides you with the freedom to truly unwind and relax. It’s a vacation that is great for mental health and wellbeing – a pleasure without stress – and an opportunity to nurture the mind, body and soul. Sailing has been proven to boost self-esteem, improve confidence, and reduce tension and stress. What’s more, being close to the sea is known to stimulate the production of serotonin, dopamine and oxytocin, all of which contributes to us feeling calm and relaxed. It’s not as expensive as you might think Of course, if you charter a luxury superyacht, it’s going to cost you. But that doesn’t mean to say all yacht charters are expensive. On the contrary, a week at sea on a nice yacht can actually cost you significantly less than a week in a luxury hotel. Of course, the cost will depend on many factors – where you travel, what kind of vessel you choose, whether you need a skipper, and so on, but do your research and you might be pleasantly surprised at just how affordable it can be. 1. Personally, I think it’s best to have a skipper as they bring a lot of valuable local knowledge with them.

    1. Speaking from personal experience I enjoyed a yacht trip far more when I knew that someone else had the final responsibility. A) They are unlikely to get into trouble with wind, weather etc. B) If there is trouble they will know how to get out of it than an inexperienced landlubber.

  2. I’d never thought about learning new skills on a yacht. I get the impression that is the way that travel is heading. From what I hear from friends the days of hitting the sun-lounger for a week are largely over.

  3. Chartering a yacht is on my travel bucket list. I expect it’s on most peoples’ list.

Some very persuasive reasons in this post to get on and do it. You make a very good point about how luxury hotels will often cost more than a yacht charter. And you don’t get the freedom and privacy with a hotel.

  4. Now that our kids have grown up and gone their own ways having acquired partners husband / wife along the way I can see that a week on a yacht charter would help to pull us all back together.

  5. Yay! You certainly made feel so much more excited after pointing out that a private boat tour would give us more freedom to roam anywhere we like without annoying any party. My husband and I plan to spend our summer break by the beach but we’re not sure what kind of activity should we do there. I’ll include this in my consideration before I finalize our itinerary later.
