Top outdoor activities in and around Barcelona

Barcelona’s excellent weather and lively atmosphere makes it the perfect destination for those wanting to participate in an array of outdoor activities. From horseback riding through Costa Brava to kayaking in Mont-Rebei Gorge, there’s an activity for every family, couple, and solo traveller wanting to experience more of Catalonia’s outdoors. Let’s have a look at a few of our favourite activities!

Golf

Golf is a sport that embodies the true essence of luxury, and with numerous incredible courses dotted along Barcelona’s coastline, there’s truly no finer destination to indulge in this sport.

Considered as one of the best activities for stress and anxiety relief, golf stands out as an ideal option for those seeking a serene Mediterranean getaway. With its emphasis on mental focus over physical exertion, it appeals to individuals of all ages. Additionally, golf is a rather versatile activity as it can be enjoyed in groups, allowing families and friends to spend valued time together, or it can be played by yourself, offering a solitude escape from the busy city.

Located just half an hour from Barcelona’s city centre lies the Real Club de Golf El Prat, the finest golf course in the city. Here, you can indulge in 3 extraordinary courses, a 300m driving range, and an array of short-game areas, ensuring that players of all levels can experience this enjoyable activity.

Golf is an excellent way of improving your mental health whilst also embracing the outdoors, providing the perfect combination for a truly relaxing trip.

Horseback riding

Horseback riding through Catalonia’s stunning scenery is an idyllic way of exploring the region’s beautiful outdoors.

Boasting delightful weather, Catalonia provides year-round opportunities to participate in this exhilarating adventure. Whether you’re embracing the summer sun or experience the region’s crisp autumn, each season provides a unique riding experience filled with adventure and discovery.

For a truly picturesque journey, we recommend heading to Costa Brava, a beautiful coastal region in the north-east of Catalonia. Here, you can enjoy a combination of countryside and coastline, ensuring a day full of incredible scenery and unforgettable memories.

Exploring Mont-Rebei Gorge

In between Catalonia and Aragón lies Mont-Rebei Gorge, a beautiful natural reserve where an array of exciting outdoor activities await.

This delightful destination beckons hiking enthusiasts with its array of trails, all of which provide amazing views of the Noguera Ribagorçana River and the region’s natural surroundings. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely stroll or a challenging trek, Mont-Rebei Gorge offers a day filled with fun. Additionally, visitors can also kayak or paddleboard along the river, providing a unique experience in a truly serene setting. Whichever activity you choose, you will be able to fully appreciate the beautiful surroundings and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Springtime is an ideal season to visit Mont-Rebei Gorge, as the weather will provide the perfect balance of warmth without reaching uncomfortable levels whilst participating in activities. Also, it is important to note that this natural beauty is situated in a rather remote location, therefore the only way of reaching it is by car.

Skiing and winter sports

Catalonia and skiing are not two words that are commonly associated with each other, however, this region is actually the perfect destination for winter sports. With just a short train journey from the city centre, you can reach the incredible Pyrenees mountains, where a plethora of ski resorts await. From skiing and snowboarding, to ice skating and snow-shoe trekking, Catalonia has it all!

Among the region’s most renowned ski resorts is Baqueira Beret, known for its extensive terrain and excellent winter activities. Ideal for both seasoned skiers and beginners, Baqueira Beret features numerous slopes, all of which are tailored to different skill levels, creating a truly inclusive environment. There is even a designated zone for children, making it an ideal destination for a family day out.

Baqueira Beret isn’t just a destination for the cooler months, as the resort also offers numerous other outdoor activities that are perfect for the rest of the year. From water rafting and hiking to electric bike rides and canyoning, this destination is guaranteed to provide fun for the whole family, no matter the season.

Sunset sailing

For those visiting Barcelona in the warmer months, consider making the most of the city’s proximity to the Mediterranean Sea by participating in one of our favourite activities, a sunset boat trip along the city’s coastline.

This activity is perfect for anyone seeking a serene yet spectacular experience. Imagine gliding along the sea as the sun paints a golden hue across Barcelona’s skyline – doesn’t that sound beautiful?

One excursion that we highly recommend is the Orsom’s Sunset Jazz Boat Trip, which allows guests to experience the Mediterranean charm from the comfort of a luxury catamaran. A glass of fizz in hand and a delightful view for the eyes, this luxurious activity promises an incredibly memorable sailing experience for its guests.

Skydiving

Although skydiving may not be for everyone, it certainly appeals to thrill seekers looking for a unique adventure in Catalonia. Jumping from a plane with a parachute takes a certain level of bravery, but the experience offers unparalleled views of the region.

Transcending the ordinary, skydiving provides spectacular views of the Pyrenees mountains, Mediterranean coastline, and Catalan countryside. It’s an exhilarating adventure different from any other, and guarantees to leave participants with incredible memories.

Whether you’re an adrenaline enthusiast seeking adventure, or an individual simply looking to challenge yourself, skydiving in Catalonia promises an exceptional and unforgettable experience.

There we have the top outdoor activities that you can try on your next visit to Barcelona. Whether you’re seeking a relaxing game of golf or an exhilarating skydive experience, Barcelona offers outdoor activities to suit every taste and preference!
