Travelling with your family to the Maldives? Here are the best resorts
Working out which resorts are best suited for families isn’t always an easy task. We spoke to Florian and Lucinda from The Resorts Collection – experts on ultra-luxury in the Maldives – to find the best. As parents, you’ll naturally want your children to have the most amazing time on vacation, but it’s important that all generations are looked after, rather than just being an afterthought.

Holidays are a precious time for families so, to save you some leg-work, here we identify those resorts that offer the best balance of escapism and comfort.
Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas – Baa Atoll
Anchored in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Anantara Kihavah is the ultimate family retreat. Choose from spacious two‑bedroom beach pool residences and over‑water villas – both with enough space for all the family to unwind, yet plenty of shared space to connect.

Little ones will love discovering Thiththi Boli Kids’ Club which offers a range of activities from treasure hunts to marine-themed crafts, as well as babysitting services allow parents to slip away—perhaps to the resort’s famed underwater restaurant, SEA. Kids and grown-ups alike will also love to snorkel house reefs, chase dolphins at sunset and even dine in a private cinema under the stars. Sporty souls will appreciate volleyball, tennis, gym and table tennis facilities; one thing you won’t be is bored!
Soneva Jani – Noonu Atoll
Wouldn’t it be amazing to wake up in a water villa with a slide – yes, really – and launch yourself into a turquoise lagoon? That’s Soneva Jani’s signature splash – it might sound a little gimmicky but it’s loved by children young and old.

Family villas range from two to four bedrooms, and The Den—an extraordinary kids’ kingdom—is where your kids will be in their element! It is home to a pirate ship, Lego cubbyholes, climbing walls, a cinema and even a music room. All resort activities have sustainability at their core – pick from marine biology, organic gardening or stargazing. Oh, and did we mention the complimentary ice‑cream, cheese and chocolate rooms? Moments of pure joy, served on tap.
Ozen Reserve Bolifushi – South Malé Atoll
If “hassle‑free luxury” were a location, it’d be Ozen Reserve Bolifushi. All‑inclusive elegance means food, drink, excursions and water sports are discoverable without worrying about the bill. Every villa — beach or over‑water — comes with a private pool; some even feature their own slides, ensuring fun from dawn till dusk.

The Ozen Kids’ Club marshals cooking classes, crafts and marine adventures while parents unwind. Calm, shallow lagoons and accessible house reefs make snorkelling a safe, shared delight. It’s resort living pared back to family perfection: indulgent yet effortless.

Gosh now that would be a hard choice! If I was forced to choose, I think it would be the large villa at the end of the strip of residences at Vakkaru Maldives!
Going to the Maldives is a lot more complicated than people think. We toyed with a Maldives trip last year and almost got overwhelmed with the choice. Some one told me that there at least a 150 hotels and deciding which one is best for you is a challenge.
It’s worth making the point that not all Maldives resorts cater for children. And there are some that are better with adults than children. It’s important to check on what’s available for the kids.
Whether you arrive at your resorts by sea plane or speedboat your children are going to get some geography lesson about atolls and archipelagos. Far more exciting than what they’d get on a whiteboard at school.
If you can take your lucky kids to one of these Maldives resorts it would be a holiday they’ll never forget.
Some friends went to the Maldives in the spring with their 9 and 11 year olds and they were a little worried about occupying the kids on a tiny island that was less than a mile long. The kids club with art and cooking and nature more than kept the children occupied and our friends hardly saw the children between meals. It was a great success and they’re talking of doing the Maldives again next year.
A private pool is a nice luxury for that dip before breakfast and it’s always welcome to head down the steps into the lagoon for 20 minutes of snorkelling. This is the first time that I’ve heard of a villa having its own slide as well.
