U2’s Bono upsetting people in Dublin
An Taisce and Dublin traditionalists such as the Irish Georgian Society are expressing grave concerns about co-owner Bono‘s plans to transform The Clarence hotel. Hardly surprising, perhaps, when the  proposal is for  “a dramatic structure with a spaceship-shaped glass dome at the summit of an extraordinary atrium extending from the basement to the rooftop”.  Apparently it would require the taking over of neighbouring Georgian structures and demolishing all but their facades. The hotel stands in the quays area of the city – a designated conservation area where planning laws  do not allow the  demolition of protected structures except in exceptional circumstances.

The Clarence is a great hotel – have to recommend the Irish Breakfast in the tea room. Great way to start the day.
