Auckland wins prestigious international cruise award

Auckland has been named Best Turnaround Destination by the worldÂ’s leading cruise line executives, capping off a record cruise season. The award from BritainÂ’s Cruise Insight magazine is based on a survey of industry leaders and ranks Auckland as the ultimate destination to start or end a cruise. The city is credited for having the best combination of hotel stock, tourism appeal, airlift and airport capacity, transport links, ground handling and seamless transfers to the seaport. Auckland The award comes as Auckland is enjoying a record cruise season with 100 cruise ships visiting from 1st October 2012 to 24 June 2013. During the 2012/13 season Auckland will welcome 178,000 passengers and 78,000 crew, resulting in an injection of NZ$114.9 million GDP into the regionÂ’s economy.   1. I can’t agree more! Okay, I’m biased, I live in Auckland, but it is a stunning harbour. Ships dock right in the CBD, not miles away as in most ports so you can just walk ashore and start exploring. There are plenty of things to do in the city and surrounds. Hey, and Kiwis topped the tourist-friendly poll. What more could you want!
