Miss Potter mania

Miss PotterLast April, I told you about the Hollywood film crew  close to  my neck of the woods, filming for the Miss Potter movie. Now the film is out, it looks like it could be a very successful year for tourism in the English Lake District, and it seems everyone’s out to get a piece of the pie.   Sharrow Bay, a Relais & Chateaux property,  is offering a special 3-hour  guided tour for up to 6 guests for £150. Lindeth Howe, formerly a home owned by Beatrix Potter and now a hotel, is offering a ‘Beatrix Potter Lakeland Break’ from 16th January 2007 for £240 per person. It includes 2 nights’ dinner, bed and breakfast in a superior room and a full day Beatrix Potter Experience Tour with Mountain Goat.  One place that should do very well from the publicity is the  Yew Tree Barn bed and breakfast in Coniston once their winter refurbishments have been completed.    The property  was used for the film to depict Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s farm in the Lake District. Another is Kendal-based Lake District Film Tours. If those links aren’t for those inspired by the movie, there’s even been a Visit Miss Potter site set up to try to make the most of the opportunity. Finally, if you’re heading for the area, don’t forget to visit the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction (a website put together by yours truly, incidentally).

There’s a website devoted to Miss Potter created by the local tourist board. See here:
