For Sale: The Principality of Sealand

The Principal of SealandI don’t think this really qualifies as luxury, but it nevertheless caught my eye as it carries the kind of price tag that you might normally associate with extravagance.   The Principality of Sealand is situated in the North Sea, 7 miles off the British coastline, and is officially the world’s smallest country, complete with its own flag, passports, stamps and – would you believe it – national football team, apparently. You can arrive in style, by helicopter, and enjoy 360-degree sea views but, as far as luxury is concerned, it stops right there.   That’s because Sealand is an old military fort from the 1940s. Anyway, do a Google search and you can learn a lot more about the place but, suffice to say for now, the place is for sale. According to The Times, “offers in the region of eight-digit sums” are being considered… but are we talking British pounds here, or Sealand dollars?
