5 of the best luxury spas in Europe

Sometimes you need a break. But not just any kind of break – a luxury break; where you’re pampered to perfection, with treatments to suit your every unique need. Whether you’re a wine lover or a fitness junkie, a pregnant mother or a first-time father – rest assured, there’s a luxury spa out there for you. Here’s a list of places you may want to consider the next time you need a European-based break from the rigours of real life: Four Seasons Hotel George V Spa, Paris, France Located in the heart of Paris – just off the Champs-Elysées, in fact – the Four Seasons Hotel George V Spa offers you the perfect getaway from the bustling city. Aside from a comprehensive range of luxury skin treatments and massages, services offered include wedding preparation for both bride and groom, jet lag recovery, and first-time beauty sessions for younger visitors. Get your hair and makeup professionally done for a night out, or indulge in one of the spa’s signature treatments – A Stroll through Versailles, invoking Marie Antoinette’s favourite scent of orange blossoms in a simply sublime experience. Serenity Spa, Seaham Hall, Northumberland, UK Northumberland may not sound like the most glamorous location, but those who enjoy a literary twist to their spa experience will doubtless get a kick out of staying at poet Lord Byron’s former home. The spa’s Oriental design invokes a sense of peace and calm – the perfect setting for enjoying the excellent facilities. Couples can look into the special Valentine’s Day packages, or simply enjoy the couple treatments available all year round. Expecting mothers can enjoy a Pre-Baby Spa Day, while gentlemen (impending fatherhood or otherwise) can take advantage of The Classic Gentlemen’s Day. No doubt Byron would approve. Six Senses Spa & Gym, Hotel Arts, Barcelona, Spain If strolling the streets of Las Ramblas or taking in the glories of Gaudi wears you out, then this is just the escape for you. The Six Senses Spa and Gym boasts a range of treatments designed to invoke and awaken your senses – you’ll be refreshed, rejuvenated, renewed, and no doubt ready to head out to experience one of Europe’s liveliest, most dynamic cities. Alternately, you can make full use of the gym and its relaxing yoga and Pilates sessions, or dine in one of the hotel’s six beautiful eateries. Grand Spa, Rome Cavalieri Hotel, Rome, Italy Despite its ancient Rome aesthetics (the hotel even offers gladiatorial training!) the Grand Spa offers a global range of massages – including but by no means limited to Ayurvedic, Thai, Shiatsu, and Chakra Stone. When that’s done, retreat into one of the Roman-style amethyst steam room, or perhaps the Caldarium-Frigidarium – or maybe the Ancient Roman-style relaxation area. Perfect if you’re looking to blend your relaxation experience with some breathtaking aesthetic history. Vinotherapie Spa, Les Sources de Caudalie, Bordeaux, France Calling all wine connoisseurs! As hinted by its name and location, this is the place for anyone looking to combine an interest in wine and pampering. The two concepts come together here like never before – reflected in the wine-scented treatments and beauty products. Want to bathe in wine? Be wrapped in wine and honey? Or wrapped in fresh grapes? You can do all that and more. Also, the wine you actually drink is excellent. Do you have any other recommendations for luxury spa getaways? 1. The Lifehouse Spa in Thorpe-Le-Soken, Essex is beautiful. Set in a stunning fields and gardens, it’s a merciful short train journey from London and truly a great getaway for all.

  2. I’ve visited the Four Seasons Hotel but the one located in Florence: the spa and all treatments are inspired by the four main elements…really a relaxing experience. I suggest also the CastaDiva Resort & SPA in Como: its outdoor heated pool floating on the Lake is amazing!
