The world’s most expensive superyacht sold in 2021

Over 1,000 superyachts were sold in 2021 as the industry enjoyed a boom in sales. But the stand-out superyacht sale from the year was the 126-metre Octopus, last listed for sale by Fraser and Burgess with a price tag of €235,000,000. Originally built by German yard Lürssen and delivered in 2003 for Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, this Espen Øino-designed sexplorer superyacht comes with two helipads, a remotely-operated underwatervehicle with a 1.9 mile range, an 8-person submarine and a range of 12,500 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots. She has a top speed of 19 knots and is powered by two-hybrid ABB Industry AG E-Motors that limit her environmental footprint. As the largest explorer superyacht in the world, she can accommodate 26 across 13 staterooms. The interior was designed by Jonathan Quinn Barnett. Additional amenities include a spa, library, bar, cinema, gym, various lounges, forward-facing observation deck, fully-kitted out dive centre, basketball court and glass-bottomed observation lounge in the tank deck. On the bridge deck there is a heated freshwater swimming pool, bar, spa pool and pizza oven nearby. Octopus remains one of the world’s most impressive yachts to this day and joined the charter market for the first time this year, having embarked on a two year round-the-world tour. She is listed for charter with Camper & Nicholsons asking $2,200,000 per week.

  1. If I were a multi-billionaire I’m not sure that a pizza oven for my super-yacht would be on my list of priorities.
