  1. When I look at those images, I struggle to understand why in over half a century of travel I’ve never been to the Maldives.

  2. Over the years we’ve had a number of Maldives holidays and I’d struggle to rate the beaches we’ve enjoyed.

I expect someone’s developed a beach rating scale. Should we be looking at the whiteness of the sand? The blue of the water? The warmth of the water? The spacing of the palm trees?

  3. So often I’ve heard or read that the Maldives are at danger from rising sea levels and when you look at the beauty of these islands, not just resorts but home to so many thousand people, you realise what a tragic loss these islands would be.

  4. Once you’ve experienced the Maldives it’s hard to resist the urge to return. My favourite holiday on the planet.

  5. OK so the food will be fantastic and there’ll be relaxing spas but let’s be honest here. It’s the beaches leading down into those azure seas that draw us to the Maldives.
