  1. You are right to emphasise the durability of the Lenovo laptop. No one travels with a back-up laptop but when I’m working on the road I’m utterly dependent on it.

Also, I know that most people dread setting up a new laptop. Installing the apps and software that you need can take days. Next time I buy a laptop I’ll want one that will outlast me!

    1. Hi Peter – the other really nice thing about that Lenovo model is its battery life. It has an excellent battery life which can be a huge bonus when you’re traveling…

  2. Recently an optician friend gave me a lecture on protecting our eyes from UV light. Getting the man in your life a pair of the Disoriano sunglasses would be a very wise present.

    1. If I had my time again, I would definitely have worn sunglasses more when I was younger. My eyes have been very good to me but now at 50, I’ve got to that point when I need to wear glasses (particularly for small print). Could I have extended this until a little later had I worn sunglasses more…? Maybe, maybe not. I guess I’ll never know for sure but, with the benefit of hindsight, I think a good pair is always going to be a sound investment.

  3. That Balance Board is a great gift. Most of the men I know have weak knees from too much sport in their youth. These boards are great for building up strength in the knees and legs.

  4. Although that Parka is designed for Antarctic conditions there are days up here towards the US / Canada border when the mercury drops well below zero. My partner would really appreciate one of these coats to keep the cold at bay.

  5. That travel T shirt -“the only thing you buy that makes you richer” – would be perfect for my boyfriend. He’s a travel addict.

    1. I love that statement… it’s so true! We don’t really need material things in life… but memories… they can last us a lifetime and be so much more special.

  6. Although I would agree that the Chopard watch is contemporary I think that it looks sufficiently strong and classic to last through changing fashions.

It’s the sort of watch that a man could bequeath to his son.

    1. Very good point, Sally!

My family have also started playing a game called ‘Coup’ – I would definitely recommend looking that up. It’s great fun and very tactical, but would be simple to play on a journey – just like dominos.

  7. Obviously I’m not getting about much but the day will come when I’ll be looking for a durable carry-on case once again. I’d agree that all the dents and scratches are badges of honour.

    1. I have a TUMI case (different model to this one) and it’s really well made. It’s taken a few knocks over the years, but has stood the test of time and looks as though there is plenty of life in it still.

    1. Good point. A well-made, good quality product will always tend to outlast cheaper alternatives – so much so that it can actually be a false economy to think to replace items more frequently than you might otherwise.

  8. Thanks Paul, going to send this to my wife. She’s always great with gifts but to make it easier for her these items will all make my Christmas bright!

  9. There aren’t many men who bother to take care of their skin. It’s down to us women to take charge and buy them the Creed after-shave balm.

    1. It all seems very extravagant to me but my husband runs about 4 pairs simultaneously. In his office, in the house and a pair in each car. Another pair of the Disoriana would keep him happy.

  10. i loved my Expedition Parka from Canada Goose but sold it when i went vegan due to their use of fur. after years of people asking, finally they have announced that they will stop manufacturing jackets using real fur from the end of 2022 which is great news. not that i need one any more as i live in Southeast Asia!

  11. As my husband is obsessed with capturing high quality wildlife images he would love the Legende Bundle. Nothing but perfection does for him.

    1. Lenovo make some great tablets at a very affordable price. That particular model has great sound, too – it comes with Dolby Atmos® on the superior JBL quad-speaker system, so quality is better than you might imagine.

  12. Maybe I was a late comer to internet shopping. 20 years ago I used to find Xmas shopping for my husband so difficult.

Now with guides like this gift buying is so much less stressful.

  13. I’m hoping that Santa will drop one of the magnetic phone mounts in my direction. My beloved wagon dates from pre sat-nav and I like to use my phone for navigation. And I ain’t gonna be getting a new wagon anytime soon.

  14. That black leather atlas would keep me happy for many days and hours. And are there only 195 countries? I thought there were over 200.

    1. Hi Piers – I think it depends on how you define a country – I believe the UN recognises around 250, but commonly it’s widely regarded to be around the 195 mark, give or take, depending on what’s going on in the world.

  15. I’ve gotten some very good ideas from this list. I’ve always had a hard time thinking of what to give the men in my life, but now I have choices!

  16. As soon as I saw that Alpine Edge watch I knew that it had my man’s name all over it. Solidly and stylish it’s exactly his sort of thing.

  17. Over the years I’ve always taken a look at the ALTB recommendations for “him”, though in my case I’ve got to admit that there have been a few “hims”. This year though it seems to have almost become a definitive style bible. Many thanks.

  18. He’s definitely in need of a new wallet. The Loewe wallet would be a big upgrade on the one he’s got now. It’s disintegrating. Why is that men never see that?

  19. It’s got to be the Creed aftershave. Very few men take shaving seriously enough.

If women shaved how many brushes, lotions and potions would we use?
