The aim was to achieve the perfect balance between image quality and portability. Later, in the early days of the digital age, creating the equivalent of a medium-format film negative would have yielded a cumbersome and heavy camera. But when the Hasselblad X1D-50c was released, in 2016, it was revolutionary. Before then, no manufacturer had ever got even close to creating something as small with as much imaging prowess. The beauty of the Hasselblad X1D-50c is how little compromise is involved with its beautiful design, relatively lightweight portability and top-tier image quality. There was really nothing quite like the Hasselblad X1D, and it still holds up well today. Available from MPB. AlcoSense Ultra from AlcoSense We all like to think that no one would ever drink and drive but did you know that you can still have alcohol in your system the morning after the night before? Particularly at Christmas with alcohol consumption so much higher, make sure that you don’t risk your licence, your life or the lives of others in an accident. Any alcohol remaining in your body can impair your judgement, reduce concentration and speed of reaction. Remember there is no rule of thumb as we all process alcohol as an individual. Driving abroad or simply putting in a lot of miles on the roads each year? The AlcoSense Ultra sits at the top of the range of personal breathalysers from AlcoSense. It has the same size sensor as used by several UK police forces, a colour screen clearly showing your reading and whether you still have alcohol in your system, the Blow Coach which helps you blow into the device accurately, a Time Until Sober alert, pre-programmed international level alcohol limits, is fine-tuned to external temperature readings, has a backlit blow tube receptor, 100 extra blow tubes and a carry case. Every AlcoSense breathalyser is calibrated and tested to ensure accuracy. 1. What a great selection. Always love your gift guides! Plenty of variety, so there’s always something for everyone.

  2. That trail camera looks like a great idea. I live in quite a rural location and see wildlife from time to time, but invariably only have my phone camera with me which just doesn’t do it justice. To think that I could be just positioning the camera somewhere and then let it do the work for me sounds like a great idea. I might have to tip the wife off on this one. :)

  3. The Hasselblad has always been the gold standard for photographers. Though back in the day they were huge pieces of kit. Now things have changed. Very true that the nicest presents come in the smallest packages.

    1. I have never owned one, but have long since aspired to do so. As you say, they’ve been the gold standard when it comes to the highest quality camera equipment, for many years.

  4. The way the weather’s going in the UK this week the Helly Hensen infinity jacket is going to become every day wear.

    1. And I hear we are in for another cold snap! The UK’s lowest temperature of the season was recorded just near me the other day at a place called Shap – minus 8.7C (16.34F). It’s with temperatures like those that a quality brand such as Helly Hansen makes all the difference.

  5. I’m a cartophile (someone who loves maps) and love that semi-abstract wall art. If you’ve travelled extensively and want to give visitors to your home a snapshot into your antics around the globe, that looks like a great way to display it.

    1. Indeed, Jimmy! Long gone are the days when you would invite people to your house to look at your holiday snaps! But this is a nice way for any visitors to your home to get a glimpse of your adventures – and for your own memories, of course.

  6. Seeing the Northern Lights is close to the top of my husband’s bucket list, though I’ve got to say that it is a lengthy list.

Travel Zoo’s Northern Lights flight is a great way of ticking that one off. It would be a real surprise for him.

  7. Thanks for coming to my rescue!!!! I’ve been wondering to get hubby for Christmas this year (he’s always impossible because he doesn’t really need for anything) and a Northern Lights flight is just the ticket. I didn’t even realise that was something you could do from the UK.

  8. Love the lobster tray. I have a cheese board from the same company – have had it for years – and love it.

    1. They have some truly lovely items. Have a look at their site. As well as slate servers, place mats and coasters, they do beautiful table runners and other tableware.

  9. My husband has his “Action Man” moments where he goes off for the weekend with his mates or heads out into the wilds for a walk. The Adventure Bag by Stubble and Co would be perfect for those times.

  10. Not sure if us men are meant to be commenting on this post or even reading it. Personally, I’d be delighted to receive a pair of the Grampian ankle boots. As I have to visit some muddy sites for my job I wear that sort of waterproof boot most of the year.

  11. That’s a varied list of gift items to pick from. As a woman, I’m always drawn to accessories as I’m sure a lot of women are. My top 3 are the Keepall, it’s classic LV. Sun Drops, sun or no sun sunscreens are a must. And Cast Quick Dry Towel, perfect for beach vacations. I just hope they pack light.

  12. That Soldier Backpack looks a serious piece of heavy duty kit. It might even survive a life with my partner. Nice bonus that it is vegan too.

  13. That Louis Vuitton bag is an absolute classic. The fact that it’s still going strong after 90 years shows how well designed it was in the first place. I know a man who would appreciate unwrapping one.

    1. Yes, and to think the LV brand has been going for something like 170 years now… quite incredible. Just goes to show that quality always tends to prevail.

  14. I think I’ll get him a pair of the Versace shorts and hope that he gets to wear them in an exotic location sooner rather than later.

  15. Those wooden sunglasses have got a lot going for them. I think we’re learning more and more that to preserve our eyesight 100% UVPM protection is vital. And at £59.99 they are a good price too for such a stylish accessory.

    1. Hi Lorraine – good to see you back here. Yes, dewerstone have a lovely range, many with wooden (all maple, I think) frames, plus some with acetate frames with wooden details. Have a look at their website!

  16. Even going about my everyday business in London I usually came across one or two words and phrases that globalisation has imported. You don’t have to travel to need Pocketalk.

    1. There is – Google Translate. However, if you don’t have WiFi, then Pocketalk I think wins hands down as you won’t be hit by roaming costs. There are other pros and cons for each, I believe… but for me that has to be one of the key advantages of Pocketalk.

    2. I just did a bit more investigation on this and another key advantage is that Pocketalk comes with a dedicated noise-cancelling microphone. This means that it will still pick out your voice even if there are other noises in the vicinity.

  17. Very rarely does my partner do any food shopping. When he does he always comes back with a lobster. Getting him a lobster tray would really complete the job for him. Favourite food served on a stylish tray.

    1. That would certainly look amazing, I’m sure, Natasha. I think you could use it for any seafood to be honest – eg. a nice smoked salmon starter on Christmas Day.

  18. Some great ideas there. Love the recycled towel and the cameras. I once saw the northern lights from a plane, so I’d be tempted by that trip too. It was incredible!

    1. Thanks, Matt.. glad you liked the post. I can’t say I’ve ever seen the Northern Lights from a plane but I have seen spectacular displays in Greenland that could be watched for hours. Such a magical phenomenon to witness.

  19. Gift lists always remind me of the fact how lucky (read spoiled) we all are. So many people I’ve met in life use Christmas to buy themselves something they really need while we often wonder what we could buy which the other person doesn’t have yet (the irrelevance of the need for it is striking).
This list however does have some goodies which really tickled my fancy. The sunglasses and that Hasselblad camera have my name written all over them!

  20. Christmas trees are everywhere and I’ve still not bought a single present. So relieved that I came across this post. It might just have saved me …

    1. We’re slowly getting there with all the gift-buying in this household, Jane, but not got a tree yet. That’s going to be a job for tomorrow, I think…

  21. Although my husband says he’s easy to please he’s a difficult man to buy for. He is something of a “boy’s toys” lover so I think I might go for something on the tech gizmo theme …

    1. Owning one myself, I can heartily recommend the Browning trail cameras if you live in a rural location. You’d be surprised at what wildlife you find is around you!

  22. Now we are back working from home that rugged Edge camera will be ideal for my hubby as he likes to escape into the wilds when he has a spare hour.

    1. The beauty of it – especially if you live somewhere relatively remote – is that he can just leave it set up somewhere discreet and return another day to see what he has captured. No need to get up before sunrise to see what you can capture!

  23. I’ve seen a lot of version of a pocket translator, but the Pocketalk S has everything you need; voice translator, text translator, and even a data plan so you don’t need to find Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s stylish and small to carry anywhere and the big screen is a big help too.
