Hasselblad X1D-50c from MPB The allure of portable medium-format cameras started in the days when film ruled the roost. The aim was to achieve the perfect balance between image quality and portability. Later, in the early days of the digital age, creating the equivalent of a medium-format film negative would have yielded a cumbersome and heavy camera. But when the Hasselblad X1D-50c was released, in 2016, it was revolutionary. Before then, no manufacturer had ever got even close to creating something as small with as much imaging prowess. The beauty of the Hasselblad X1D-50c is how little compromise is involved with its beautiful design, relatively lightweight portability and top-tier image quality. There was really nothing quite like the Hasselblad X1D, and it still holds up well today. Available from MPB. 1. My wife would love the Harrods afternoon tea, especially as there is a glass of bubbly involved. Not that I’d get to go with her. She often meets old friends in London.

    1. Hi Brian – you need to make it a condition that she takes you! That’s a great offer from Travelzoo, by the way… cost of afternoon tea booked directly with Harrods is £59 (that’s without Champagne – a glass of Champers is £19 extra). Similarly, a Champagne afternoon tea at the Ritz or Claridges currently starts from £81 or £85 respectively.

  2. I’ve never really got why my wife needs quite as many handbags as she has. She’s the Imelda Marcos of handbags but I’m sure she could find room for that Olianto bag in her collection.

  3. My partner’s either complaining that she’s too hot or too cold when’ she’s. skiing.

I don’t think that phrase “optimal temperature” has ever been applied to her yet.

Maybe that Helly Hensen jacket could sort it?

  4. Not sure that I’ve quite the figure yet for the triangular bikini. After lockdown there are a few pounds in places they shouldn’t be. I would be very flattered and surprised if my boyfriend bought me one.

    1. Hi Zoe – you need to drop hints. Maybe “accidentally” email him this page. You can do this by clicking on the green button (top and bottom of the article) with a white envelope on it…

  5. My wife sees herself as something of a travel writer. I don’t know whether she’ll get anywhere with it but it gives her a great deal of pleasure. A travel journal would be ideal for her as she likes to jot down her record of every day that we are on the road. A journal as stylish as the one shown is something really nice to keep. She’s got scruffy diaries dating back to her gap year travels around the world.

    1. It’s always nice to document your trips in something that you’ll treasure for years to come, that’s for sure. And something handmade and bespoke like that one from Etsy makes for a lovely gift.

  6. As a Mum and proud owner of a bugaboo, I can heartily recommend them. They are expensive compared with other buggy systems that are out there, but easily the best.

  7. Time is running out. Only 21 sleeps until Santa’s sleigh departs. And I still haven’t got my wife’s present. Thank you for the inspirational ideas.

    1. Don’t panic, Tim… still plenty of time!! Most (if not all) of these retailers will be easily able to get items to you in time for Christmas if ordering now. I think the bigger issue will be whether there’s still stock rather than whether’s there’s enough time…

  8. Although I hate breaking Christmas traditions by giving presents early I think giving the Little Miss Twiggie Twinkles Christmas box needs to be an exception. As they are festive scents she ought to be using them very soon as the Christmas season is already underway.

    1. Hi Andy – yes, they have a lovely range, and some non-festive ones too if you wanted to save something to open on Christmas Day itself. If you read their reviews (there are a number on Trustpilot, for instance), you’ll see they go down very well with recipients. What I didn’t realise until I came to publish this article is that they’re based within a mile of where I live (small world!) so it’s nice to be supporting a local business.

  9. Suddenly it’s got a lot colder and even the pavements are quite mucky. I need a pair of those Arlington Chelsea boots.

    1. They look too good to be traipsing through mud with them to me, Elaine, but I know Chatham’s boots do have a tendency to be quite resilient and hard-wearing in a variety of conditions.

  10. I’m a journal enthusiast and love to chronicle my travels in a book I can look back on. Twisted Velvet’s travel journal certainly fits the bill and especially made for sticking things on. Wonder if this is fountain pen friendly as well.

  11. Most of us have travelled very little lately and many have not had much exposure to the sun. I think the Sisley Paris skin care could be a very wise present.

    1. That’s a good point, Diana… with various lockdowns, etc. we’ve not been getting the vitamin D we’re usually accustomed to, and our skin is probably not as used to the sun’s rays.

  12. Shop Like You Give A Damn is such a great name for a business. Too often we can’t be bothered to investigate what we are buying, not thinking about how it’s been sourced and whether it’s provenance is ethical or not.

And it’s a stylish bag too. I know a lady who would appreciate it.

  13. Great list of gift ideas. I need to share this with my husband for some suggestions for me! You can’t go wrong with a little self care skin care can you?

  14. I think I will subtly email a link to this post to my husband with a star by the ring, camera and La Mer creams! A great roundup of presents that would please just about every woman at Christmas and all year round!

  15. Today would have been the day when I would have hit the shops to do my Santa run. Now with the Omnicron variant around I’ve decided that I’d be much safer doing my Christmas shop on the web. Thanks for all the great ideas.

    1. I’ve been an online convert for years when it comes to gift-buying (in fact, for almost all my purchases bar our regular food shopping)… I just find it so much more convenient. But, as you say, there’s an added incentive again this year, and that’s to lie low whilst we wait for this dreadful virus to pass.

  16. What lovely choices! My favorite is that pear shaped gold and diamond wrap around ring. It looks so unique and beautiful.:-)

  17. My present psychology is that women feel a tiny bit guilty buying cosmetics as it’s an indulgent luxury that few men spend on. When we buy them cosmetics it’s a sign that we approve of their usual purchases making it even more of a gift.

  18. Hard to beat a glittering piece of jewellery for a festive present for your loved one. That golden pear looks a real classic.

  19. “A girl can never have too many handbags,” says my wife so I’ll go for the black leather one from Olianto.

    Christmas sorted.

  20. So many beautiful and useful ideas here. The camera looks sleek and women will love having high tea at Harrods. But the diamond wrap around ring is what I like most!

  21. I’m going for the cable tidy bag from John Lewis. I can’t begin to count the number of times my wife says she’s lost her earphones / phone charge / i – pad charger. Please delete as appropriate !!!

    1. It’s scary nowadays how many cables and chargers we seem to need to have. In my household, it’s got to the point that we don’t even know what some cables are for! So anything that helps with organisation in that regard, especially when you travel and things can end up just been thrown in a bag, is always handy, I think.

  22. These are some really thoughtful gifts. Some really good ideas for the festival season. That jacket looks dope! Would like to get my hands on the travel journal.

  23. Ah, that Chelsea boots are a beaut! I love the color combination, and it’s not too winter-wear that I can wear it in any season. The antibacterial material is also great as an odor-buster.

  24. Honestly, I really need a new camera, and the Hasselblad seems so perfect. It’s a great size! I’d also love the cord keeper – mine get so tangled when on the go. Such a thoughtful list of items for the traveler!

  25. Wow! These are great gift ideas. I super love the Arlington Boots. It looks so pretty and chic. The scented soy wax melts is also a great idea and this is something that I would be happy to receive.

  26. That Hasselblad camera looks slammin. I actually used to shoot on a hasselblad (back when they were film)…so I am pretty excited to check that guy out. I wonder what the smallest lens is that can be attached.
