  1. It is unbelievable that so many people openly flaunt their addresses on their luggage. I’ve heard reports of criminals scouting airport lines to see which addresses will be empty and ready to be burgled. The privacy luggage labels are a great innovation.

    1. Yes, definitely Joe… this is an issue that deserves to be given more attention. With all the publicity there’s been surrounding this, I’m surprised when I still see people’s addresses on labels at the luggage carousel.

  2. It really is time that my husband got himself a new pair of swimming trunks, something stylish like those Tom & Teddy trunks.

  3. When we go away for the weekend we don’t want to waste precious time unpacking and then remembering where we put things. The Weekender bag is a great invention. Perfect present material.

    1. I think the image shows how it works pretty well, but there’s an animated gif on their website that you might like to take a look at. It’s a great idea for someone who is regularly away but just spending a night here and there that doesn’t really warrant a full unpack.

  4. I’m surprised that I’d never come across that St Augustine quote before on the cover of Travel Journal. In my experience it’s so true.

  5. Does that Apple GPS watch do golf distances as well? If it does it could be perfect for my partner. He says that he is always over hitting or under hitting.

    1. You can use apps in conjunction with your Apple Watch. Take a look at Golfshot: Golf GPS + Caddie from Shotzoom Software, for example – it gives realtime distances to key hazards and targets on 46,000+ courses worldwide, plus has a host of other features.

  6. That mobile router really is a game changer. When you’ve got your own business you always have to be online.

  7. Great timing. I was going to go Christmas shopping at the Mall today. Then I couldn’t face it.

Plenty of imaginative ideas here to buy online.

    1. We have a couple of Paguro Upcycle’s small rucksacks, Sheila, and they are great. Really well made and – what’s really nice about them – is that they are constructed from repurposed and recycled materials such as bike inner tubes. They’re strong and sturdy, ethically-made, and each item is slightly unique.

  8. When I saw that lead photo of a James Bond look-a-like doing stunts on a board I thought that this probably wasn’t a selection for my accountant husband. Fortunately, I was wrong. There’s plenty here that would suit him.

    1. These e-boards have become all the rage over the last few years. It looks amazing when you see people on them (particularly when they hydrofoil) and apparently it’s not as difficult to use them as you might think. Most people start to be able to stand on them after only a handful of attempts.

  9. It’s highly frustrating that some hotels, even 5* hotels, have neither a luggage rack nor space to store your case.

I think the PROPS case could be a big seller. For people who suffer from a bad back like I do, it is going to make travel a lot easier. Bending down to pack and unpack a case at floor level really doesn’t help.

    1. I think they call them Fair Isle socks – Fair Isle was a traditional knitting technique adopted in the Shetland that uses multiple colours at the same time.

  10. That 2D world map has my name written all over it! I would love to have that on my wall and getting some nice flashbacks from past travels around that globe, every time I walk past.

    1. Hi Freya – I don’t have that particular Bluffworks item, but do have some of their others and they have always been great for me. Particulary handy for my travels as the creases seem to drop out of them!

  11. Binoculars are not only for safaris. We live in the suburbs and with our binoculars we see a surprising variety of birds.

  12. Specialist travel pants are a great buy. My husband always travels in them. After a long journey car, plane, taxi etc you can arrive looking creased and disheveled and that’s a pair of pants he can’t wear again that trip – unless he gets them laundered.

  13. We’re lucky to have quite a rural garden and since he’s been working from home more my husband is getting more interested in the wildlife that passes through. I think that Browning Trail camera would give him a lot of pleasure.

    1. East of Nowhere – what a great enigmatic name for a company. You’ve got to admire their imagination. That relief map of the planet is a classy product. I know a man who would like to hang that in his study!
