Top 5 Alpine chalets for an extended stay

Although it’s not exactly re-inventing the wheel the current situation affords the opportunity to rethink the whole work/life balance experience. Currently offices and workspaces are being closed down, some temporarily, some for good. This has given rise to the opportunity for more and more people to be able to work from home. Not being tied […]

Top 5 ski tours

There’s time for things to change for the better, of course, but by now, normally, most people would have already booked this winters ski trip and would be counting down the days. Despite the best guarantees that deposits will be refunded people are understandably very nervous of committing. I thought I’d share with you my […]

The journey is the destination

The journey is the destination

Ralph Waldo Emerson was an American essayist, lecturer, philosopher, and poet who led the transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He is perhaps best known nowadays for his quotes. “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” is probably his biggest hit. A seemingly simple but nevertheless, profound statement. I guess it’s the constraints of the […]

The benefits of travel for children

The benefits of travel for children

There’s light at the end of the tunnel, it won’t be long now until we can resume one of our favourite pastimes. When the final shakedown comes I guess we’ll see who in the holiday industry is left standing. There are almost certainly going to be some companies and organisations that go to the wall. […]

A brief history of travel

A brief history of travel

You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone! A cliche, of course, but most cliches’ have more than a grain of truth to them. In this case the thing we’re all missing is travel. Who could have guessed that meandering around our beautiful blue dot would be off the menu? It was inconceivable that […]

Grounded!

Grounded!

Well, there goes another month on house arrest. It’s like being tagged with an anklet but without the ASBO (a court order which can be obtained by local authorities in order to restrict the behaviour of a person likely to cause harm or distress to the public.) A travel blog seems pretty irrelevant at this […]

Dreaming of the Swiss Alps: 5 very high peaks in Zermatt

As things stand at the moment the travel industry has pretty much ground to a halt. Trying times, indeed. However the only constant thing is change and there will come a day when things return to normal, whatever normal is! In the meantime I guess we can all dream of that day when we can […]

Top 5 ski resort for celebrities

Top 5 ski resort for celebrities

I guess one of the appeals of skiing for celebrities is that on the slopes they can be anonymous. They can don a helmet and a pair of goggles and easily blend in with the common folk in the chairlift queue and on the piste. It must be refreshing for the rich and famous to be able to go […]

Top 5 Alpine snow-sure resorts

Is it that time already? After a wonderful summer in Mallorca that seemed to pass in the blink of an eye, I’m starting to think about the coming ski season. My winter home is Zermatt, one of the very best for reliable snow conditions in the early and late season. Indeed, skiing is possible in […]

Top 5 St. Tropez beach clubs

Top 5 St. Tropez beach clubs

My blog post last month was about beach clubs in Ibiza and it sparked a healthy debate, here and elsewhere, about Tripadvisor. The take away for me was suck it and see, for yourself. It’s like reading reviews of a film you’d like to see, the reviews universally panning said film and then you walking […]
